National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. features Nesterly in the exhibition, entitled Making Room: Housing for a Changing America until January 6th, 2019. The exhibition examines the demographic and lifestyle shifts that are currently influencing the housing market, and the changing perceptions of home and residency that are part and parcel of them. The show includes a number of case studies, as well as “the presentation of The Open House—a flexible, 1,000-square-foot home designed for the exhibition by architect Pierluigi Colombo. The Open House features a hyper-efficient layout, movable walls, and multifunctional furniture, allowing the space to meet the needs of a variety of today’s growing but underserved households.”

Our former professor and Harvard Economist, Albert Saiz, recently published a paper entitled Real Trends: The Future of Real Estate in the US. In it, he seeks to envision how economic and financial markets, as well as social influence will shape real estate in the coming decades. Nesterly is mentioned in Chapter 2! It’s a pretty interesting report, so if you have any interest in the built environment or urban living in general, you might want to give it a look!

We have exciting news: we’ve been accepted into Blue Ridge Labs’ 2017 Catalyst cohort! Per their website, “Blue Ridge Labs is a place where technologists and communities work together to explore and build new solutions for New Yorkers. We provide space, funding, and resources to help launch and grow tech platforms that address economic inequality in NYC.”

An affiliate of the massive NYC foundation Robin Hood, Blue Ridge Labs offers two programs per year. One runs for two months over the summer and centers on a different issue area each year. It brings together individual product managers, web developers, designers, and subject matter experts, and empowers them to team up to form social good technology companies.

Nesterly is delighted to announce that we’ve been accepted into the 2017 Boston MassChallenge class! From the MassChallenge press release

“Selected by a community of more than 850 expert judges, this year’s competitive cohort represents the top 8% of applications from around the world, including 12 countries and 16 U.S. states.”

As if that wasn’t enough, we were also awarded one of just five Microsoft Civic Innovation Scholarships.

We are so honored to join this incredible group of 128 companies for a summer of hard work, intense learning, and hopefully a bit of fun along the way.

On June 11, Fannie Mae and the Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism at MIT convened faculty, industry leaders, and policy-makers to discuss disruptive technologies and innovative policy solutions.
